Beginning early in the environmental review process, the Almeida team worked closely with a client to help them secure more than a dozen necessary permits. At every step in the regulatory process, Almeida Public Affairs assisted the client in communication, legislative efforts, and work with state and federal agencies to helped secure first of its kind permits.
Environmental Permitting
Cristine Almeida chaired the Board of Directors for the Minnesotans United for All Families campaign, the first campaign in the nation to defeat a same-sex marriage ban constitutional amendment. The Board was comprised of a broad coalition of diverse political parties, advocacy groups and national organizations, which all worked in tandem to oppose the amendment. The campaign raised over $12 million and executed the largest grassroots and communications plan in Minnesota’s history to defeat the measure.
Campaign to Defeat Same-Sex Marriage Ban Constitutional Amendment
Almeida Public Affairs played a key role in lobbying for passage of the Clean Water, Land & Legacy Amendment and also played a pivotal role in leading and coordinating efforts of the large coalition of environmental and other organizations to advocate for its passage. This successful outcome required a broad range of capabilities, from legislative lobbying to coalition management and campaign communications strategy.
Clean Water, Land & Legacy Amendment
Almeida Public Affairs worked with the Trust for Public Land to secure funding to conserve 1000 acres of land surrounding La Salle Lake. The lake is Minnesota’s deepest lake, and is now part of a State Recreation Area managed by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

Almeida Public Affairs led a coalition to successfully pass the Child Victims Act, legislation that changed the statute of limitations applied to civil legal claims for survivors of childhood sexual abuse. Passage of this law relied on a strong coalition of advocates combined with an effective public relations strategy to raise awareness of the importance of this issue. The legislation was passed by both the House and Senate on very strong bi-partisan votes.
Child Victims Act
On behalf of Bethesda Hospital & Nursing Home, Cristine Almeida worked to secure a controversial exemption to the state’s nursing home moratorium. This exemption allowed Bethesda to move nursing home beds from its Saint Paul facility to Mendota Heights.

Cristine Almeida was part of the core lobbying team that successfully secured $30 million in capital bonding for the design and construction of the Minnesota Science Museum in downtown Saint Paul. At the time, this was the largest bonding request secured at the Minnesota Legislature.
